Many of my accessories in my overflowing closet were discovered at a thrift store: purses, scarves, gloves, necklaces, shoes; I have almost as many accessories as I have clothing. Accessories are a simple way to differentiate an outfit, and an affordable way to create drastically different looks.
When the sun showed up in Vancouver in February, I grabbed a few thrift store scores and took advantage of the beautiful (and rare) sunny weather.
1) Printed Sparkle Scarf – I recently invested in a coat tree, only to use it exclusively for my scarf collection. When I’m on the hunt and I discover a hidden gem like this scarf, it’s hard to say no. Like a crow or a small child, I’m drawn to things that are shiny and pretty. This sparkly scarf caught my eye at a community thrift store in East Vancouver. At just 25 cents, it was a cheap addition to my tree of scarves.
2) Esprit Mini Satchel – I found this ESPRIT purse at one of the many thrift stores on Main St. It’s very small, but features built in pockets and a card organizer. I am normally a “go big or go home” kind of girl when it comes to bags, but this petite purse is perfect for a night out, an afternoon of shopping, or a day of errand running. It was just two dollars, and I know that my chiropractor will be very happy to see me sporting this small wonder, instead of the oversized purses that I normally lug around.

3) Cashmere/Wool Beret – I must admit, my French language abilities are extremely limited, but I can still enjoy the look of a cozy beret. The combination of the cream colour, material, and the adorable little nub at top add a dash of femininity to any outfit . Ever since I splurged on an itchy hat that I never wear, I always look for hats that contain cashmere, which soften up the structure and the feel of the hat. This classic beret was $3.50 at a thrift store in Penticton, British Columbia. C’est Magnifique!
