Black leggings are a wardrobe staple: comfortable, warm and the perfect trans-seasonal garment. But sometimes it’s good to try new things; break away from traditional black leggings for a new look (with the same familiar comfort).
1 - Patterned
The patterned legging is big for 2013, however, hold off on the florals until spring has truly sprung. Consider animal print, acid wash or graphic print leggings instead.
These Smudge Print Leggings from George ASDA cost just £8 per pair, and look great worn casually or dressed up. You’ll find smudge print leggings and more here, at affordable prices.
For North American buyers, these Forever 21 Kaleidoscope Crystal Leggings will fill your psychedelic fix.
2 – Wet Look
The wet look legging really came into the fashion forefront last year, and it’s showing no sign of going anywhere soon. Pair them with heels and a studded jumper for a rock-chick look.
If you want to get creative, it’s easy to add studs to almost any garment of your choice. Watch this handy video tutorial online and make yourself something that no one else will have.
3 – Stirrup
Equestrian-style fashion is set to be a strong trend for 2013, which will bring the stirrup legging back in vogue. Wear them with a simple sweater, a quilted jacket, or a pair of equestrian knee-high boots for a look that’s cozy and stylish.
4 – Coloured
Last year, coloured skinny jeans were everywhere; this year, try a coloured legging.
If bright pants and leggings aren’t your thing, go for a softer alternative like grey marl, rose pink or dusky blue. Complete your look with complementing colours like cream, navy blue and grey for a fashion-forward wearable look.
5 – Cropped
When the weather finally does start to warm up, cropped leggings will let you dip into the new spring/summer fashions without worrying about staying warm. Simply slip a pair of cropped leggings under a dress or scalloped edge shorts, and pair with ballerina flats or sandals for an easy summer look.
Cropped leggings are also great to wear as workout wear; if one of your new years resolutions is to get fit, a pair of cropped leggings can work double duty for you.
