One of my favourite ways to get more out of my closet is to wear pieces that I already own in a different way. Although it may sound strange, wearing some of your favourite garments in a new way can save you money, expand your wardrobe, and make sure that you’ll never have a “Who Wore it Best?” moment. Like the Houdini of fashion, I turned a dress that was too short into an outfit that I wore all night long.
I was heading out for Friday night tapas, and chose a dress with exposed shoulders and a rose collar that I hadn’t worn in years. Either the hemline receded, or I grew taller since I last tried on the dress, and unfortunately, my indigo dress was now more of an indigo smock.
Instead of choosing a new outfit and getting rid of the hybrid dress-smock, I decided to work with my fashion predicament. To lengthen the hemline, I wore a black tube skirt underneath the dress, which was both functional and comfortable. A wave of my magic wand and a sprinkle of accessories later, my outfit transformation was complete.
Now, if I could just perfect the trick where I make a Chanel purse appear in my closet.
