The film adaptation of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald hits theaters May 2013, and brings with it the glamour and style of the Roaring Twenties. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton, the film is expected to be as visually stimulating as the plot is engaging.
To accessorize the costumes designed Catherine Martin, Tiffany & Co. designed jewellery that illustrates the decadent lifestyles of some of the characters from the Great American Novel. Key pieces include a diamond headpiece worn by Carey Mulligan, an Art Deco-inspired ring sported by Leonardo DiCaprio, and numerous ropes of luxurious pearls.
“The collection celebrates Tiffany as the premier jeweler of the 1920s, an era that saw a dramatic change in fashion and the rise of a fresh, exuberant attitude,” said Jon King, executive vice president of Tiffany & Co.
For those that can’t afford a headband composed of diamonds, Tiffany & Co. is releasing a new collection in conjunction with the movie release.
The Ziegfeld Collection is based on archival jewellery designs from the 1920s, and is named after New York’s legendary Art Deco Ziegfeld Theatre. The collection captures the 1920s’ cool elegance and includes ropes of luxurious pearls, drop earrings, a sterling silver pendant with cushion-cut black onyx, oval black enamel cuff links, an onyx ring, and a heart-shaped locket of sterling silver.
