Once, when I was in high school (and I was a huge hippy), I overheard a more “popular” girl talking to her friends about me. She said “She’s just one of those weird, like, unique, ‘original’ girls that, like…does her own thing…” She meant this as an insult but I took it as a huge compliment and quickly learned that being ‘original’ meant not having the burden of caring what any particular group thought about me and giving myself the freedom to do whatever the f*** I wanted!
