Tranquility isn’t the first word that comes to mind when discussing an indoor 100,000 square foot waterpark. Known for unforgettable family vacations and unlimited excitement for little ones, Great Wolf Lodge knows exactly how to show families a good time. But if it’s a little rest and relaxation you’re looking for, this family-friendly waterpark resort knows exactly how to provide that too.
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the waterpark, Elements Spa at Great Wolf Lodge provides everything from manicures to massages. I had the opportunity to experience the Elements Signature Facial and the Nails Express Manicure while I relaxed, rested, and recharged.
As I entered the spa, the scent of chlorine morphed into the soothing scents of aromatherapy, and friendly staff surrounded by luxury spa products greeted me with a smile. All noise of the hustle and bustle above and outside the spa was lost completely, and replaced with soothing music and an overwhelming sense of calm.
My first treatment was the 80 minute signature facial, which started with a skin consultation to customize the treatment to my needs. Just a few days of the Ontario winter took a toll on my sensitive skin, so the esthetician and I decided on a moistruzing facial that would leave my skin feeling soft and smooth. The treatment cleansed exfoliated, and moisturized my dry lips and face, all while I drifted dreamily in and out of reality.
Because my opportunities to relax are few and far between, I always prefer to enjoy my relaxation treatments in silence. Jennifer, my esthetician, was more than happy to chat with me, but she also made me feel comfortable enough to fully relax in silence. All it took was just a few minutes under the cozy blankets in the dimly lit room, and my thoughts of deadlines and due dates drifted away.
After I reluctantly peeled myself out of the warm treatment bed, Jennifer led me to the manicure/pedicure room, and that’s when the fun began. I had the chance to talk with Jennifer about the spa, Vancouver weather, life, and travel. Everyone I met at the spa was friendly in the most sincere way, and seemed genuinely interested in making all of their clients happy.
The 30 minute express manicure included cuticle cleaning, nail shaping, massage and polish application. After a full five minutes of staring at the wall of OPI polishes, I chose Dating a Royal, a shade of blue fit for a queen.
I walked out of the salon with a smile on my face, glowing skin, and perfectly polished nails. My original thoughts of deadlines due dates were replaced by a new time-pertinent question: when can I go back?
